the largest single tax increase in any state in the history of this nation in February of 2009. Though we were already #1 in the nation in income tax, sales tax, gas tax, and #3 in business
tax, the once lauded “Governator” went back on his repeated promises to not punish the people of California for Sacramento’s mistakes. We are now a further #1 in sales and income tax, the car tax has been doubled, and the child tax credit removed.
Grey Davis was recalled for illegally tripling the car tax. Could he have done any worse? While this budget was passed legally, it is dishonest and unjust. In addition to the two years of tax increases called for in the budget, Prop 1A – which Arnold is currently conducting a media campaign for – will extend this tax increase another two years. Yet it omits that very fact! We are told, falsely, that it is simply a spending cap. However, the spending cap can be increased any time taxes are! He must be punished for what he has done, removed from office so he cannot cause any more harm, and prevented from having a future in politics.
While Arnold is certainly the most visible symbol of bureaucratic corruption, conclusive proof has recently come forward that the Republican legislators conspired to pass this budget while at the same time sustaining minimal political fallout for breaking their anti-tax pledges. The Democrats and Republicans are no different: they both seek their own interests over that of the people. Hardworking, taxpaying citizens are being run out of their homes and businesses are being left with no choice but to leave California in order to fuel the machine which benefits only politicians, the unions they are beholden to, and those dependent on our massive welfare state.
Thomas Jefferson once said, “To preserve our independence, we must not let our politicians load us with perpetual debt. We must make our choice between economy and liberty, or profusion and servitude. If we can prevent the government from wasting the labours of the people under the pretense of caring for them, the people will be much happier.” We are far from happy.
It is time to act… to show our representatives that they are misrepresenting the people who have entrusted them with their voice, and that we will not sit idly by.
We believe it is of the utmost urgency to gather together an organized and efficient campaign to recall those who have earned their votes through lies and gone against our wishes, starting with Schwarzenegger. In the spirit of the patriots who stood up for their rights on that historic Boston day so many years ago, we too shall stand up for our rights. With honor, through peaceful protest and in the best interest of the People of California, we will be heard.
