Ok, ok, it really is a tax, but they are naming it a Fee as a loophole way of adding revenue to the budget without requiring a ballot measure vote to the public. Other “fees” and “surcharges” have begun creeping up after the overwhelming defeat of Propositions 1A-1E on May 19th. Included in these are administrative court fees for setting up traffic school for traffic violations and certain areas are now imposing charges on emergency services beyond the standard for Ambulatory transport, among others. Add “Idea #10″ to the growing list of hidden taxes we are being forced into by our Puppet Legislation and the Unions pulling their strings.
I don’t know which I found more disconcerting: Governor Schwarzenegger beginning his “presentation” about such a serious issue in such a lighthearted manner, the standing ovation he received upon entering the hall or the fact that mid-day on a Friday there were over 100 Carpenters/Laborers from the Carpenters union in attendance. (Had I worn a bright orange t-shirt I may have been able to ask a question… and why weren’t they working?! Mind you, this comes from a very proud Carpenter’s daughter). Let’s just say I didn’t stand, nor did I applaud for him at any point. This speech was written and delivered in the same cookie cutter smoke and mirrors approach we have come to expect from Schwarzenegger and his colleagues in Sacramento. If anything I write about sounds familiar, it’s because we’ve been here before. Not just once, and not that long ago.
